A common excuse I hear when speaking with someone about making extra money is they don’t have the skills or talent to make it worthwhile. True, there are some areas where you need highly technical skills. I firmly believe that makes up a small minority of money making opportunities.
You might be asking yourself why you should make extra money. Can you relate to these statements?
- I need extra cash to pay off debt.
- I want to save more for retirement.
- I want to take that vacation I’ve been dreaming of forever.
- I want extra spending money.
If so, then you have a good reason to earn extra money. If you want or need to make extra cash but fear you don’t have the skills you need to do it, here are a few ways to make more money that anyone can do.
Despite the possibility of scams, there are real ways to make money working from home, or anywhere for that matter. One of those ways to make money is testing websites on UserTesting.com. You don’t need to have technical knowledge; you only need access to the Internet.
In about 15 minutes of time, you can make $10 testing one of the thousands of websites available. You won’t become rich doing this, but it’s a great way to make some extra cash in your spare time.
How many people do you know who are going on vacation this summer? Or, anytime this year for that matter? If they’re going for an extended period, they very well might want someone to watch their house while they’re away.
When we were on vacation last summer, we paid a college student $150 for them to housesit. It was easy money for them, and we had peace of mind. I’ve heard of people making at least $20-$25 per day to housesit, depending on the location, so if you get several gigs over the course of the summer you could have a nice sum of cash.

Clean Your House
How much stuff do you have laying around your house you’re not currently using? If you’re like me, you hate having extra stuff lying around creating clutter. Instead of throwing it away or simply leaving it, consider liquidating it for cash.
There are many ways to do this, such as:
- Facebook groups
- Selling on Craiglist or Ebay
- Having a garage sale
- Consignment sales
Not only will this allow you to get rid of your junk, but you can also make some extra money for a certain goal.
There are many companies today needing content for their websites. However, I often hear from people that they wouldn’t be able to write for money. Yes, there are some niches within writing where you need a certain skill level but in many cases you don’t.
If you are knowledgeable about a certain niche or subject, you can justifiably write to earn extra income. There is a variety of methods to find writing jobs. You can find jobs in places like Craigslist, but I’ve found that directly contacting a particular company you’re interested in can yield better results as well as straightforward networking.
Drive People Around Town
The ridesharing industry has exploded over the past few years, largely in part to companies like Uber and Lyft. If you have free time you’d like to fill and don’t mind driving people to different locations in your city, it can be a great way to earn extra cash.
There are a few requirements to drive for Uber or Lyft, such as:
- Relatively newer 4-door car (depends on the city you live in or the age of your car)
- In-state insurance in your name
- Clean driving record
- Clean background check
- Current registration
Most of, if not all of those requirements should be self-explanatory and could open up a nice stream of income.
There are many ways to make extra money that require little to no skill. Don’t give into the excuse that you don’t have the skills needed, rather find ways to monetize your free time to help you make some extra cash.
